The relationship between photographer and client: the importance of alchemy for natural, authentic photos
There are technically perfect photos. And then there are the ones that move us.
The ones that speak of us, our complicity, our cracks, our truth.
What makes all the difference?
The photographer-client relationship changes everything!
In this article, I explain why this human relationship is essential, especially for confident wedding, couple or portrait photography.
1. What we often forget: a photo is a co-creation
We often think that the photographer “does it all”.
But in reality, a photo shoot is an encounter. An exchange.
It’s a fusion of artistic sensibility and authentic presence.
The photographer captures… what you give him to see.
And you give yourself away… if you feel safe.
Hence the importance of feeling, that almost invisible but precious alchemy.
2. Alchemy means feeling understood and seen
When you choose your photographer, you’re not just choosing a style. You’re choosing a person with whom you’ll share intimate moments. Tears, laughter, sometimes silence.
For a self-confidence session, a home birth session, or a wedding reportage, the link is everything.
You have to be able to say to yourself:
“I feel comfortable with her/him.”
“I can be me, without a mask.”
“I feel she/he understands me, really.”
3. A good relationship leads to real photos
The more confident you are, the more naturally you dare to reveal yourself. And that’s when the magic happens.
You no longer “pose”: you feel, you live, you are.
And as a photographer, I’m here to capture that moment, that raw energy.
It’s in these moments that the most powerful images are born: the ones that tell your true story.
4. How do you know if you have a good relationship with your photographer?
Here are a few keys to feeling this alchemy right from the start:
Take a look at her site and her networks: do you recognize yourself in her words and images?
Exchange with her/him: a call, an e-mail, a video. The energy is always there, even at a distance.
Listen to your instincts. If you feel caring, listening, respect → that’s a good sign.
5. Chez moi: a human, emotional, poetic approach
My job is more than just pressing a shutter release.
I’m taking the time to get to know you. To understand your story. Your emotions. Your limits too.
Whether for :
a wedding reportage in Provence,
a maternity session at home,
a portrait to reconnect you to yourself
A seaside couple session
A family lifestyle session…
I put people at the heart of everything.
I want you to feel free. Real. Beautiful. Authentic.
In a nutshell: why is the photographer/customer bond essential?
Because you can’t capture the truth without trust.
Because a vibrant, true, sincere photo is always born of an encounter.
